Targeted locations

We have established locations where we will engage with our target. The only problem is that it will be weather-dependent, so we have looked to sample weekends. We can move the activity from Saturday to Sunday if the weather is better.

Background

We're Simplicity, NZ's nonprofit KiwiSaver and Investment Fund manager. Founded in 2016 and now one of six govt-appointed default KiwiSaver providers, Simplicity's aim is to make Kiwis richer and smarter with money. Now we all know how to be sun smart. But this summer, Simplicity wants Kiwis to get KiwiSaver smart, too! When you invest in KiwiSaver, a managed fund, or individual shares, you're certain to encounter fees of some type. While they may appear insignificant, fees can really add up, significantly affecting your investment returns over time. So this summer we're hitting beaches across NZ to share the word about KiwiSaver, fees and what Simplicity offers, with some limited edition high quality sunscreens to give away (thanks to our mates at Zoop)!

x 4 tote bags

x 5 packs of Jaffas

Total amount given to Studio 23 to cover 10 beaches:

x 300 sunscreens

x 400 lip balms

x 60 hats (mixed styles)

x 50 T-shirts (mixed sizes)

x 40 tote bags

x 4 boxes of Jaffas (12 packs)

Van Set Up

Park the van by the beach, where there is a sufficient amount of foot traffic, either heading to the beach or coming off the beach.

This includes being at the shops if the weather is cloudy or close to surf lifesaving.

Set up the orange umbrella, prize wheel, prize packs, cornhole set and 2 x signs.

Orange umbrella - set up to suit the location, but ensuring it doesn’t obscure any Simplicity signage or the prize wheel. It should act as an attention grabber.

Prize wheel - either at the back of the van or the side, so there’s easy access to grab prizes from inside the van.

Prize packs: place x1 box/bag of sunscreens, x1 bag of lip balms, hats, T-shirts, and tote bags just inside the side or back door of the van, depending on where the prize wheel has been placed.

Cornhole set - if there is a significant amount of foot traffic, set up the cornhole set for people to use as they wait for the prize wheel. (Only do this if there’s an appropriate space that doesn’t interfere with traffic)

Sandwich sign & footpath sign:

“Come and win some free stuff” sign should be placed on the side/back of the van to direct people toward the prize wheel.

“Check to see if you’re being burnt…

” QR code sign - should be placed near the prize wheel as a resource to direct people to who have approached.

Promo/prize packs - How it works

Aim to hand out 60 promo items per beach.

One person positioned by the “Check your fees” board using the provided script.

One promo person positioned by the prize wheel assisting people who want to play.

Prize wheel:

Artie faces = the person wins a lip balm.

Spin again - they spin again.

Winner’s choice - they have the option of choosing a sunscreen, lipbalm, hat, T-shirt, tote or bag of Jaffas.

If you haven’t had more than 3 people within 15 minutes, pack down the van set-up and move onto the beach. (Obviously, this is just an estimate. Please use your own judgement as there may be people milling around the van but not engaging. Is it more effective to approach these people or start approaching people on the beach?)

Walking the beach - after the van is packed up and secured (option to leave QR code sign out if there are people around who may use it whilst promo staff are walking beach), collect a bag of sunscreens and lip balms and using the provided script begin approaching people on the beach.

Each person who’s willing to have a quick chat can have a lip balm and those who express keen interest in Simplicity can have a sunscreen (depending on their level of engagement - sunscreen is in short supply for now, so just needs to be given sparingly!)

Van Pack down

Once you’ve wrapped up at a location, ensure all the promo items, games and signs are put back in the van and you’re good to go!

Don’t get burnt by fees” beach promo: Giving away sunscreens and having chats with the public

*Engaging with people who come to check out the van activation*

Expectation is to invite people to come and play the cornhole game that’s set up beside the van, and/or have a go on the “spinning wheel” which allows players to win one of our promo prizes (per separate activity brief)

*Walking the beach/area around the beach*

Expectation is to engage people for around 1-2 minutes (or longer if they want to chat!) before giving them sunscreen or lip balm, and moving on to the next person. Only caveat for giving sunscreen/lip balm out, is if people are happy to chat about Simplicity for a short time. We would prefer bottles (worth $30) not to be given if people only want free stuff without engaging!

PRIZES - The sunscreen retails for $29.95 and the lip balm for $15.00, so only give these out to people who engage and start a conversation. If they ask for a sample and mention their current Kiwisaver provider, or if they don't know it, the sample might not be suitable for them. We want people to scan the QR code and enter their current provider so they can see the comparison for themselves.

PHOTOS - We need you to grab a photo of yourself at the beach and, if possible, engaging with people. Just ask them if they mind getting a photo with them for your report. Ideally, these will be with our youthful target
