Background

The global production of Best Foods mayonnaise has been disrupted by COVID-19 for over 12 months – leading many Kiwis to lament the loss of their favourite mayonnaise brand.

But now, Best Foods is back with mayo stock reaching pre-pandemic levels, so that the people of New Zealand never have to go without their favourite mayo again.

To celebrate the return of Best Foods in full supply nationwide, Best Foods has initiated the Best Foods EXCHANGE at Sylvia Park on Saturday, 14 August – with more than 1,000 litres of mayonnaise to be given out for free.

From 11.00am, members of the public can trade in their other empty mayo jars and be upgraded to two complimentary Best Foods 340ml bottle replacements. If they come with empty hands, they will still receive one complimentary Best Foods bottle – after all, the Best is Back.

We have some fantastic recipes cards showcasing some of Best Foods most popular recipes that they can try at home. Please share these with passer byers.

Once product runs out, brand ambassadors can hand out recipe cards only.

500 bottles are to be put aside until 2.00pm in case stock runs out and visitors do arrive in the afternoon with their empty bottles.

DO NOT mentor any competitor brand names or use any of the following terms when referring to the empty mayo jars: second-best, settle for, sub-par,

The Hits Radio

From 12.00pm – 2.00pm The Hits will be on site activating (arriving 11.40am) to further engage the public giving shoppers the chance to spin the winning wheel.

We will help them set up their prize table, winning wheel and flags and neatly put out Best Foods bottles.

Logistics

  • Visitors are encouraged to bring their empty mayo to be exchanged / replaced with two bottles of Best Foods mayo

  • For all empty mayo’s that are given at the food truck, please give them two replacement bottles of Best Foods

  • To reduce waste, if the bottle isn’t fully empty, advise them to take their second-best back home

  • If the bottle is empty, encourage them to recycle it in the recycling plinth provided on site

  • For all empty mayo’s provided, please use a pen to mark this so that they aren’t being re-used or passed along to others

  • Please then ensure you’re checking each empty mayo bottle to ensure it isn’t being re-used or passed along

  • For those that don’t have an empty other mayo to exchange, please give out one Best Foods mayo bottle to anyone who arrives at the EXCHANGE – one per person only

  • Provide a recipe card to all visitors who receive a Best Foods mayo

  • Once stock runs out, please continue to hand out recipe cards

Issues Management

Food waste is a major concern both globally and in New Zealand. To mitigate negative visitor and/or media scrutiny around exchanging unfinished product, we advise:

  1. Communicate empty jars to be brought to the stunt where possible

  2. Avoid communicating unfinished product mechanic

  3. Half-eaten jars brought to the stunt should be returned to the consumer along with their new supply of Best Foods

  4. Preparation of reactive materials ahead of the campaign

Q&As

1.     Q: Why was there a shortage of Best Foods Mayo?

A: Production in BF factories was impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic and shipping delays compounded the supply issue.

2.     Q: What happens to the jars of mayo that are brought to the EXCHANGE?

A: For all half-full jars/bottles, we request that you take these home to finish. We will clean and properly recycle all jars brought to the EXCHANGE.

3.     Q: I didn’t bring any mayo jars, can I still participate in the EXCHANGE?

A: Yes, as a celebration that the BEST IS BACK, we’d love to give you bottle of mayo.

A: Not a question, but I bet we can change your mind – have a jar!
