SAMPLING BRIEF

Background

Best Foods is launching ‘The Leftover Lunch Truck’ to highlight the nation’s food waste and educate Kiwis on how to make the most of their leftover meals and ingredients.

Launching on 20 August, the food truck will spend two days at Britomart in Auckland and one day at The Base in Hamilton to show that these ingredients typically destined for the bin can easily be transformed into something delicious. The truck will use New Zealand’s top 10 most discarded ingredients such as potatoes, bread, veggies and poultry which will be whipped up into four delicious (and free) sample meals for passers-by to trial.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness of New Zealand’s food waste issue

  • Inspire Kiwis to get creative with their leftovers through a range of delicious and easy recipes, rather than discarding them

  • Inspire Kiwi’s with top tips and tricks to reduce waste

  • Demonstrate how Best Foods Aioli can be used to bring together leftovers and left behind ingredients to create a delicious snack or meal

Communication & Sampling Strategy: How will we do this

Challenge: engage and inspire passer-byers of the food truck to learn how food waste occurs and learn tips and tricks to reduce waste while trialing Best Foods ‘leftovers’ recipes and encourage them to try these dishes at home.

Essential Factors to Consider: The brand ambassadors need to be warm and engaging and not like they are selling anything but information that will save you money!  Food must look and taste delicious – we want to create a moment with passer byers that also challenges them to change the way they view food waste. Through trial of recipes, they can learn a little how food waste occurs and view and taste how quick and easy it is to use leftovers and ingredients to turn into delicious the meals.

The primary causes of food waste are over-purchasing, over-cooking and not eating our leftovers due to lack of inspiration in the kitchen
